Three vast and rugged mountain ranges cross Crete from west to East: The White Mountains (2,452m), Idí or Psilorítis (2,456m) and Díkti (2,148 m). Crete has fertile plateaus and plains, like Lassíthi, Omalós, Nída, and Mesará. The famous Samariá Gorge on the S-coast leads down to the Libyan Sea.
