Berndtson MAP -
Egypt
Since ages, humans settled in the lush valley of the Nile River, the longest river in the world. Except here and some coastal areas of the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, most of Egypt is desert with majestic sand dunes. Bordered by Lybia to the west, Sudan to the south, and Gaza and Israel to the east, Egypt sits on the bridge between Africa and Asia. The opening of the Suez Canal dramatically shortened the ship passage between the Middle East and Europe. Eastwards is the rugged Sinai Peninsula that is rich in biblical heritage. Major urban center is the capital Cairo at the beginning of the Nile delta.
